Edible insects in China: Utilization and prospects

Advances and perspectives in the application of CRISPR/Cas9 in insects

【摘要】<p>Insects compose more than half of all living<br/>organisms on earth, playing essential roles in global<br/>ecosystems and forming complex relationships with<br/>humans. Insect research has significant biological<br/>and practical importance. However, the application<br/>of genetic manipulation technology has long been<br/>restricted to several model insects only, such as<br/>gene knockout in Drosophila, which has severely<br/>restrained the development of insect biology<br/>research. Recently, with the increase in the release<br/>of insect genome data and the introduction of the<br/>CRISPR/Cas9 system for efficient genetic<br/>modification, it has been possible to conduct<br/>meaningful functional studies in a broad array of<br/>insect species. Here, we summarize the advances in<br/>CRISPR/Cas9 in different insect species, discuss<br/>methods for its promotion, and consider its<br/>application in future insect studies. This review<br/>provides detailed information about the application of<br/>the CRISPR/Cas9 system in insect research and<br/>presents possible ways to improve its use in<br/>functional studies and insect pest control.</p>

Universities in China and Russian Far East Promote Communication and Friendship

Recent Progress in Dual-Polarization Radar Research and Applications in China

【摘要】Dual-polarization (dual-pol) radar can measure additional parameters that provide more microphysical information ofprecipitation systems than those provided by conventional Doppler radar. The dual-pol parameters have been successfullyutilized to investigate precipitation microphysics and improve radar quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE)。 The recentprogress in dual-pol radar research and applications in China is summarized in four aspects. Firstly, the characteristics ofseveral representative dual-pol radars are reviewed. Various approaches have been developed for radar data quality control,including calibration, attenuation correction, calculation of specific dierential phase shift, and identification and removalof non-meteorological echoes. Using dual-pol radar measurements, the microphysical characteristics derived from raindropsize distribution retrieval, hydrometeor classification, and QPE is better understood in China. The limited number of studiesin China that have sought to use dual-pol radar data to validate the microphysical parameterization and initialization ofnumerical models and assimilate dual-pol data into numerical models are summarized. The challenges of applying dual-poldata in numerical models and emerging technologies that may make significant impacts on the field of radar meteorology arediscussed.

Interannual and Decadal Changes in Tropospheric Ozone in China and theAssociated Chemistry–Climate Interactions: A Review

【摘要】China has been experiencing widespread air pollution due to rapid industrialization and urbanization in recent decades. The two major concerns of ambient air quality in China are particulate matter (PM) and tropospheric ozone (O3)。 With theimplementation of air pollution prevention and control actions in the last five years, the PM pollution in China has beensubstantially reduced. In contrast, under the conditions of the urban air pollution complex, the elevated O3 levels in cityclusters of eastern China, especially in warm seasons, have drawn increasing attention. Emissions of air pollutants and theirprecursors not only contribute to regional air quality, but also alter climate. Climate change in turn can change chemicalprocesses, long-range transport, and local meteorology that influence air pollution. Compared to PM, less is known aboutO3 pollution and its climate e ects over China. Here, we present a review of the main findings from the literature over theperiod 2011–18 with regard to the characteristics of O3 concentrations in China and the mechanisms that drive its interannualto decadal variations, aiming to identify robust conclusions that may guide decision-making for emissions control and tohighlight critical knowledge gaps. We also review regional and global modeling studies that have investigated the impacts oftropospheric O3 on climate, as well as the projections of future tropospheric O3 owing to climate and/or emission changes.

Assessment of Temperature Extremes in China Using RegCM4 and WRF

【摘要】<p>This study assesses the performance of temperature extremes over China in two regional climate models (RCMs),RegCM4 and WRF, driven by the ECMWF’s 20th century reanalysis. Based on the advice of the Expert Team on ClimateChange Detection and Indices (ETCCDI), 12 extreme temperature indices (i.e., TXx, TXn, TNx, TNn, TX90p, TN90p,TX10p, TN10p WSDI, ID, FD, and CSDI) are derived from the simulations of two RCMs and compared with those from thedaily station-based observational data for the period 1981–2010. Overall, the two RCMs demonstrate satisfactory capabilityin representing the spatiotemporal distribution of the extreme indices over most regions. RegCM performs better than WRF inreproducing the mean temperature extremes, especially over the Tibetan Plateau (TP)。 Moreover, both models capture well thedecreasing trends in ID, FD, CSDI, TX10p, and TN10p, and the increasing trends in TXx, TXn, TNx, TNn, WSDI, TX90p,and TN90p, over China. Compared with observation, RegCM tends to underestimate the trends of temperature extremes,while WRF tends to overestimate them over the TP. For instance, the linear trends of TXx over the TP from observation,RegCM, and WRF are 0.53C (10 yr)??1, 0.44C (10 yr)??1, and 0.75C (10 yr)??1, respectively. However, WRF performsbetter than RegCM in reproducing the interannual variability of the extreme-temperature indices. Our findings are helpfultowards improving our understanding of the physical realism of RCMs in terms of dierent time scales, thus enabling us in</p><p>future work to address the sources of model biases.</p><p><br/></p>
